About Judy

Judy began a life long devotion to music at a very young age. When she was six, her grandmother gave her a special present, a piano. The gift was inspired and fostered a natural talent and passionate interest in music. This has led her to be a musician and to develop into an accomplished, award-winning composer.

At the age of seven, Judy attained a level of skill and musicianship that allowed her to play for services and direct choirs at her family’s place of worship, Calvary Baptist Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

She continued to develop her musical talent in her academic pursuits. She attended Howard University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison and holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Michigan State University and the University of Southern California.

In her career as a musician and composer, Baity has demonstrated her versatility and range in a number of musical genres and styles. As a musician, she has accompanied numerous choral organizations and has taught piano, organ and composition for many years. As a composer and arranger with a core foundation in classical as well as traditional and contemporary sacred music, she adds a unique musical voice to solo instrumental and orchestral compositions, choral works, jazz pieces and contemporary gospel music. She has composed a number of published works that include the solo piano pieces, Toccatina and Q&A, winners at the National Conference of Piano Pedagogy.

Her work, the Mary McLeod Bethune Suite for solo voice, chorus and orchestra was premiered on the campus of Bethune-Cookman College in celebration of the opening of their performing arts center. And, her Kwanzaa Songs for Children CD, Nguzo Saba, has been ranked as one of the best by about.com.

She continues to compose choral music, the latest, My God, What Is A Heart. This work was composed for and premiered at the Retirement Worship Service for the Rev. Canon Lynn Jay at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Santa Clarita, California where Baity serves as music director.

She is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers (ASCAP), the International Alliance of Women in Music, the National Association of Negro Musicians and the Music Teachers Association of California.

She presently resides and pursues her career in the Los Angeles area of California.
